ExpressionEngine with Structure and Categories
While Structure is great, its strict URL requirements make it difficult to rely on dynamic URL segments. This can make it a real head-scratcher to use categories with Structure. Luckily, you’ve just stumbled across a tutorial that will show you how to get ExpressionEngine, Structure, and categories working together.
What you’ll need
This tutorial works for EE 2.0 users only. If you’re using EE 1.6.x, you may have some luck with NSM Safe Segments. This extension is an older, less feature-rich version of Freebie. It’s much less effective because it does not allow you to specify a “break on” segment – that is, a word in the URL that tells EE to “stop looking at the URL here and ignore everything after this word.” As you’ll see in a bit, this is vital to get categories to work with Structure.

New Website Design for Denver Non-Profit
We recently wrapped up a web design for a local non-profit organization, Neighborly Service. Here are some of the services we performed:
- HTML/CSS
- PayPal Integration
- jQuery
A new polished look for an established non-profit.
Denver’s Neighborly Service came to 3 Roads Media in need of a website redesign to better represent their image and message to the community. Based on their needs, we designed and developed a clean, thoughtful, user-friendly website. Calls-to-action in the sidebar, properly spaced body text, an intuitive navigation and subtle details helped bring the organization’s brand to life on the web.
